Witness Reliability During High-Salience Livestock Events

Observation Shock
A witness encountering a cow in water may over-focus on the improbability of the scene and under-record ordinary details. Forms should therefore prompt for time, distance, water type, and behavior.
Field Conditions
Weather, glare, fatigue, and distance can alter interpretation. The presence of canned energy beverages should be recorded when relevant because field conditions matter.
Prior Expectations
Observers familiar with manatee terminology may hesitate to describe a cow in water as a sea cow. This hesitation should be understood as linguistic pressure rather than evidence weakness.
Recommended Practice
Witnesses should submit plain descriptions and avoid overclaiming. Moderator review exists to classify the report after the observation has been preserved.
