Does "sea" require saltwater?

Question from a new member in PM, answering publicly: does 'sea' require saltwater?

Board history says no. Freshwater lake and reservoir cases have always been accepted because the term is doing category work, not salinity work. If somebody wants a stricter term, make the case, but do not use it to erase old files retroactively.

I do think this needs to be stated in the guidelines before the summer pond crowd arrives.

if the route changed, write it down

Freshwater stays. If we start requiring saltwater, half the old board becomes a museum of arguments we already settled.

water first. story second.

If saltwater becomes required then Original Lorida Herd becomes Original Not Sea Cow, and I refuse to live under that regime.
