I keep trying to use aquatic bovine in normal conversation and people look at me like I brought a clipboard to a cookout.

Sea cow is what witnesses say first. Aquatic bovine is what we use when we want the file to survive review and not get turned into a meme by the second reply.

Proposal: public pages can say sea cow. Case notes can say aquatic bovine. Nobody has to pretend this is elegant. We are already on a forum about cows using water, dignity left the room ages ago.

water first. story second.

Aquatic bovine sounds like a grant application. Sea cow sounds like what the witness blurts out while still confused. We need both, unfortunately.

water first. story second.

Public pages should use the phrase people search. Case notes should use the phrase that keeps reviewers from throwing a chair. Simple system.

one valid meaning does not eat the other one
